General Motors will be 100 years old on September 16th. Today they are one of the largest automakers in the world. General Motors was founded in 1908 in Flint, Michigan as a holding company for Buick. William Durant was one of the innovators of the vehicle movement. He owned and lost General Motors twice. Many of the vehicle companies we know today involved William Durant such as Oldsmobile, Cadillac/Pontiac, Chevrolet and more. General Motors was ranked 20th in the 2002 toxic 100. They are number 18 in 2008. Today General Motors are among the leaders in the industry for creating alternative-technology vehicles. In May of 2004, they introduced the world's first full size hybrid pickup truck. Toyota is the leader of the industry's Hybrid initiative and GM is determined to remain at the top by learning, creating and teaching new concepts of alternative-technology vehicles and fuel use.
